Metal comes two ways: standing seam, with raised seams and hidden fasteners, and exposed-fastener panels screwed through the face. You see both on farmhouses, cabins and barns.

Low-slope
Flat and nearly flat roofs take a membrane instead of shingles: TPO, EPDM or a roof coating. You meet them on businesses, churches and the flat part of a home addition.

Skylights
A skylight is a window in the roof, and the flashing around it is where it usually leaks. When the unit itself is worn out, it gets replaced.

Siding
Vinyl, fiber cement and engineered wood cover most houses around Knoxville. Each one handles heat, humidity and a hard freeze differently.

Gutters
Aluminum gutters in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes, plus downspouts and gutter guards. Wide, steep roofs shed more water and may need the 6-inch size.
