Blount County, TN

Roofing contractors for Blount County

Blount County climbs from the Fort Loudoun Lake shore up into the foothills of the Smokies. A roof in Friendsville and a roof in Tuckaleechee Cove see different weather, and they answer to different permit desks.

City, town or county desk

Outside the cities, Blount County's Development Services department takes applications for construction permits, collects the fees, issues the permits and schedules the inspections (Blount County Development Services).

The City of Maryville runs its own codes office for plan review, permits and inspections, and its adoption of the 2024 International Residential Code took effect January 1, 2026 (City of Maryville Codes). Alcoa and Townsend are separate cities as well, so the county desk isn't automatically the right one there.

We match your parcel to its office first, then price the job with any permit fee shown as its own line.

What Blount County roofs face

Chilhowee Mountain runs across the middle of the county and marks the seam between the Blue Ridge and the Ridge-and-Valley country (Wikipedia). South and east of it the ground rises into what locals call the Foothills, and thunderstorms build fast against that rise.

Townsend sits in Tuckaleechee Cove and Walland in Millers Cove. Tall hardwoods lean over a lot of roofs in both, and they drop limbs in a summer blow and fill valleys with leaves every fall. Cabins and second homes up the coves often have metal roofs, and on exposed-screw metal the rubber washers are the first thing to check.

The Little Tennessee forms part of the southern border, with Tellico, Chilhowee and Calderwood lakes on it, and Fort Loudoun Lake reaches the north side. A house that looks out over any of them catches wind with nothing to slow it.

Getting to you

US-129 runs from the airport through Alcoa and Maryville, and US-321 and US-411 carry us east toward Walland and Townsend. Townsend and the far cove roads are the long end of the county, so we try to pair those visits with other jobs out that way.

Send a few photos by text first. A picture of the slope and one of any ceiling stain often tells us whether the roof needs a ladder visit soon or can wait for a full inspection. For water coming in, call (865) 830-8126 at any hour.

Common questions

I live in Alcoa. Does the county permit apply?

Alcoa is its own city, so the county's Development Services desk isn't the first stop. Give us the street and house number and we'll look up its office, plus what that office wants on a re-roof.

Do cabin roofs in Townsend need anything different?

Mostly attention to trees and access. Overhanging limbs scrape shingles and pack the valleys, and a steep gravel drive changes how material reaches the roof. We look at both during the inspection and put the plan in writing.

Do you work on cabins and rental properties?

Yes. Cabins and rental homes are welcome, and they often have steep pitches and metal roofs, both of which we work on. A property manager can book an inspection for a place they don't live at; just give us the address and how to reach the yard. If you look after more than one property, each gets its own written price.

After a storm, should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?

Get a free inspection first. It tells you whether there's damage worth a claim. If there is, you file it with your insurer, since it's your claim, and we can document the damage, write a scope and meet the adjuster at the house. If there isn't, you've spent an hour and nothing else.
