Hamblen County, TN

Roofing contractors for Hamblen County

Hamblen County has one incorporated city, Morristown, and Cherokee Lake along its north side. The rest is farm country, lake roads and small communities like Russellville and Whitesburg.

One city office, one county office

Morristown is the county's only incorporated city (Wikipedia), so permits split two ways. Inside city limits, Morristown's Building Inspections department reviews plans, issues building permits and inspects the work (City of Morristown).

Everywhere else, Hamblen County's codes and regulations apply, including its building codes enforcement and its adoption of the 2018 international building codes (Hamblen County). Russellville, Whitesburg and Talbott addresses fall under the county. We confirm with the right office, and any fee lands on its own line.

What Hamblen County roofs face

Cherokee Lake holds about 28,780 acres of water and roughly 400 miles of shoreline spread over several counties, and part of it lies in Hamblen (Wikipedia). Panther Creek State Park takes up a stretch of that shore. Homes along the coves take wind straight off the water.

Because the lake level moves about 27 feet over a normal year (Wikipedia), docks and boathouse roofs go from high and dry to close to the waterline and back.

Inland, the county is ridge and valley farm country: farmhouses, barns and shops. Older farmhouses often wear a metal roof that has been painted more than once, held down by screws whose washers dried out years ago.

Getting to you

US-25E and US-11E cross at Morristown, and I-81 runs along the county's south side. Russellville and Whitesburg out east are our far end, so those trips get paired with other stops nearby.

Text us a couple of photos to start. For a barn or shop, include one of the roof from each end. For a leak that's running now, skip the text and call (865) 830-8126 around the clock.

Common questions

Can you re-screw an old metal barn roof instead of replacing it?

Often. If the panels are sound, fresh screws and washers stop most small leaks for years. If the panels have rusted through at the laps, it's time for replacement panels, and we'll price both so you can choose.

I'm just outside Morristown. Who issues my permit?

Hamblen County. The city office covers only addresses inside Morristown's limits. We check the parcel and handle the county paperwork if the job needs it.

Is a metal roof more expensive than shingles?

Up front, usually yes. Metal costs noticeably more to install than architectural shingles, and standing seam costs more than exposed-fastener panels. In return you get a longer life and less upkeep, which matters on steep cabin roofs and for owners who plan to stay. Ask for both prices at your free inspection and compare them on paper.

Can you fix a leak instead of replacing the whole roof?

Usually, yes. Most leaks start at a handful of spots: cracked pipe boots, flashing at a wall or chimney, a few wind-lifted shingles, or a skylight. Each can usually be fixed on its own, and if a repair will stop the leak, that's what we quote. We'll also tell you when patching has become throwing money away.
